2023 Legion Staff Team Announcement

Announcing the Coaching/Support Staff of the 2023 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Track and Field Team

Halifax, NS – With the Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships fast approaching in August in Sherbrooke, Quebec, athletes across the province will soon be running, throwing and jumping their way to achieve standards to be named to the team. The NS/NU Legion Command and Athletics Nova Scotia have a well-established supportive and collaborative framework to work in the best interest of the athletes.  As a first task for the 2023 event, they have been busy compiling the best coaching and support staff possible to help these athletes be the best they can be at the Championships this year.

Phillip Hadley (Windsor, NS), an Event Group Coach with Athletics NS will fill the role as the head coach for the team.

This year’s U16 and U18 Youth team coaching staff is composed of three additional coaches with a wide variety of training and experienced backgrounds to create a well-rounded staff to support the needs of the athletes. The coaching staff includes;

Team Coach – Iain Lapointe (Truro, NS)

Team Coach – Jodi Langley (Halifax, NS)

Team Coach – Fraser MacLeod (Baddeck, NS)

We have assembled a coaching staff who will prove to be outstanding mentors and will help create a lasting impact on these developing athletes. The primary goal of the staff is to create the best possible athlete experience.

Supporting the coaches and athletes will be a team of four support staff.   These individuals bring a range of knowledge and experience and all are enthusiastic to be joining the 2023 team.   This support staff includes:

Head Chaperone – Naté-Janine Williams (Eastern Passage, NS)

Chaperone – Nick Phillips (Sydney Mines, NS)

Chaperone – Emily Sutherland (River John, NS)

Chaperone – Jordan Bruce (Guysborough, NS)

"We are thrilled to welcome back past coaches and support staff for the 2023 event and we look forward to providing a rewarding development opportunity to new coaches named to their first provincial team.  The Legions is a unique and high-quality national competition and we are proud of the support staff we have assembled.  As always, we are indebted to the Royal Canadian Legion and the NS/NU Provincial Command for continuing to provide this incredible sport opportunity for youth" - Anitra Stevens, Executive Director of Athletics NS.

The 2023 Nova Scotia/Nunavut team will be chosen after the conclusion of the 2023 Legion Trials.  The Legion Trials will be held July 8-9, 2023 at Pioneer Coal Athletic Facility in Stellarton.  This event will also be an open event, and athletes of all ages and abilities may participate.
