Athletics NS Announces the 2023 Team NS/NU Legion Final Team

July 12, 2023 - Halifax, NS

Our Legion Team appeal window has now ended and we have named the final 2 athletes to the team.

The National Youth Track and Field Championships are fast approaching, and will be held in August in Sherbrooke, Quebec.  Athletes from across the province showed their very best in running, throwing and jumping this past weekend at the Athletics NS Track and Field Legion Team Trials and Open Meet.  The event, held in Stellarton at the Pioneer Coal Athletics Facility, brought together over 275 track and field athletes of all ages.  Those competing in the U16 and U18 Categories chased standards to be named to the 2023 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Track and Field Team.

“On behalf of the staff representing the Nova Scotia/Nunavut Legion Command at the 2023 Royal Canadian Legion Nationals, we would like to congratulate all of the athletes named to the team. This year has been the most competitive and difficult team to qualify for that anyone can remember, and that shows in the breadth and depth of the athletes that were selected. The focus now turns to coming together as a team to support one another in doing our best and bringing home medals and personal bests. The coaching staff and chaperones are as excited as the athletes for these championships and to give them all they need in order to excel. With the unwavering support of the Royal Canadian Legion these youth athletes will not only achieve what they dream about but come away with lifetime memories and friendships.” Phillip Hadley - Head Coach

“The 45th Royal Canadian Legion Dominion National Track and Field will be taking place from August 11–13, 2023 in Sherbrooke Quebec. This is the only U18-U16 aged outdoor national track and field competition in Canada.  NS/NU Command Royal Canadian Legion team selections have been completed and we will be sending 38 athletes and 8 support staff to the nationals in August. I would like to thank the Pictou County Athletics Club, the Pioneer Coal Athletics facility organizers and especially Athletics Nova Scotia for all they do to help our Legion Command field the team”. – Robert Hoeg, Nova Scotia/ Nunavut Command Sport Chairman / Track & Field Coordinator
