Athletics Nova Scotia Awards Criteria

Awards are presented in the following categories:       

  • Run Jump Throw Wheel Participation
  • Bantam Male      
  • Bantam Female    
  • Midget Male    
  • Midget Female      
  • Youth Male      
  • Youth Female      
  • Junior Male     
  • Junior Female   
  • Senior Male 
  • Senior Female
  • Special Olympics Athlete of the Year (Male and Female)      
  • Para Male 
  • Para Female   
  • Master Male   
  • Master Female   
  • Coach Excellence Award (2)   
  • George Branch Award -­ Official of the Year       
  • Dave Hoskin Award - Volunteer of the Year

Athletes (all ages) are considered under the following criteria:       

  • Overall participation at events (for Run Jump Throw Wheel )
  • Best  Performances Indoor and/or Outdoor      
  • Honours  won (e.g. Gold Medal at Legion Championships, Named to National Team, etc...)    
  • Records Indoor    and    Outdoor  
  • Any other important information about the candidate. This may include achievements under adverse conditions, special challenges, Nova Scotia "firsts" and information on the athlete's level of training or involvement in or giving back to the sport.       

Coaches are considered under the following criteria:       

  • Highlights of coaching accomplishments. Includes highest level to which athletes were coached (i.e. national championships, provincial records, etc...) and their best results.     
  • Coaching  appointments (e.g. Legion Team Coach, National Team Coach, etc.)       
  • Commitment to NCCP certification and upgrades   
  • Professional  Development undertaken to further their coach development   
  • Provincial,  National or International Team Appointments   
  • Years Coaching   
  • Club Development initiatives      
  • Innovation in coaching strategies/techniques and support of LTAD principles   
  • Development of athletes (continued improvements in sport, life, emotional well being, etc)   
  • Any other important information about this candidate. This may include level of commitment to personal development (e.g. coaching certification or training) and/or club development, special challenges, Nova Scotia "firsts" and number of events attended each year.     

Officials are considered under the following criteria:       

  • Highlights of officiating accomplishments. Includes highest level at which officiating took place (i.e. National Championships, World Championships, etc...).       
  • Number and level of officiating appointments.       
  • Any other important information about this candidate. This may include level of commitment to personal development (e.g. increasing level of certification or upgrading, special challenges, Nova Scotia "firsts" and number of events attended each year

Volunteers are considered under the following criteria:

  • Highlights volunteer accomplishments.
  • Number of events and number of years as volunteer   
  • Any other important information about this candidate.
